New Spain and Beyond

This section of Mesolore’s Archive presents transcriptions from primary-source documents housed in libraries and archives in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Our focus here is on documents from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. Our interest is not simply in the history of Colonial Latin America, but rather in the global connections linking Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas during three centuries of Iberian colonization.

These documents have been arranged according to the archive or library in which they are housed. The name of the archive is presented first, followed by its address and web information. Then we introduce each document with a brief title, followed by information on the place and time in which it was written. Each entry ends with reference information indicating where in the archive the document in question is located. Click on the (text) link to see our transcripts of each document.
