The Codex Nuttall measures 11.22 meters in length, and is folded into 47 “pages” measuring approximately 24.3 by 18.4 cm (Figure 1). The screenfold is painted on both sides. Due to holes on pages 19a-19b, which allowed a small amount of fresh paint from one side to pass to the other and cover the images it met there, we know that the pages currently numbered 42-85 (the “Reverse” side) were painted first; the pages currently numbered 1-41 (the “Obverse” side) were painted afterwards.1 The Codex Zouche-Nuttall is currently housed in the British Museum (Figure 2).
